New Zealand vs Sri Lanka Highlights, World Cup 2023: Trent Boult’s 3-wicket haul key as NZ defeat SL by 5 wickets

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka Highlights, Cricket World Cup 2023: New Zealand further cemented their position in fourth place with a confident five-wicket against Sri Lanka in ODI 41 of the ongoing 2023 World Cup, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday. Chasing 172, New Zealand reached 172/5 in 23.2 overs. with an explosive batting display from the likes of Devon Conway (45), Daryl Mitchell (43) and Rachin Ravindra (42). Meanwhile, Angelo Mathews took two wickets for SRi Lanka. Initially, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to bowl first. It had been New Zealand all the way since then with pacers Trent Boult and Tim Southee, with some help from Lockie Ferguson blowing the Sri Lankan top five away.

While Kusal Perera smashed the ball around and helped Sri Lanka off to a quick start, they also lost four wickets in the first 10 overs, including Perera himself. All this has meant that Sri Lanka were reduced to their last three wickets in their first 20 overs itself. However Mahesh Theekshana led the way in holding the New Zealand bowlers back and the Sri Lankan tail, while not scoring too many runs, he ensured that they survive beyond the 40th over. They were eventually all out for 171 runs. The last wicket stand between Theekshana and Madushanka produced 43 runs in 87 balls which was the highest for Sri Lanka.
