Australia’s Record Win Against South Africa in Third ODI
Australia registered one of their biggest wins in ODI history by defeating South Africa by 276 runs in the third and final match of the series. The game was played on 24 August 2025 at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay.
Batting first, Australia showed pure dominance. Travis Head played a superb knock of 142 runs from 103 balls, while captain Mitchell Marsh also scored a fine century. Together, they built a massive 250-run partnership at the top. Later, Cameron Green joined the party and smashed an unbeaten 118 from just 55 balls, one of the fastest hundreds by an Australian in ODIs. With this combined effort, Australia posted a mammoth total of 431 for 2 wickets.
In reply, South Africa completely collapsed under pressure. They could only manage 155 runs in 24.5 overs. Young spinner Cooper Connolly was the star with the ball, taking 5 wickets for just 22 runs, sealing South Africa’s fate.
This result is South Africa’s heaviest ODI defeat by runs and stands as Australia’s second-largest ODI victory ever. It was a match that highlighted Australia’s batting power and rising bowling talent.
