Jaydev Unadkat is out of the IPL 2023. The development comes close on the heels of the news that KL Rahul has ruled himself out of the Indian Premier League season as well as the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Unadkat, however, is still in with a hope for the June 7-12 WTC match at the Oval in London.
According to confirmed information obtained by Cricbuzz from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Lucknow Super Giants, Unadkat has left the franchise camp and is currently undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He is running against time but the possibility of his recovery for the WTC summit clash is not being ruled out.
Unadkat (31) has been suffering from shoulder injury which he sustained last week during an LSG net session. However, a very reliable source told Cricbuzz that he should be ready for the WTC final. He is the only left-arm pacer in the 15-man Indian squad for the final.
Unadkat played two Tests, 7 ODIs and 10 T20Is and his last international was a Test against Bangladesh in December 2022. His consistency at the domestic level earned him a recall into the Indian team, for which he earned his first cap way back in 2010.
Meanwhile, concerns have emerged over the fitness of two other players, who are part of the WTC final squad – Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav. Shardul had a niggle and missed a few IPL games for Kolkata Knight Riders. Nevertheless, he is deemed to be fine now as he played for the team in Hyderabad on Thursday night.
Umesh picked up a hamstring strain and missed a couple of games. It is learnt that he is recovering from it. The national team management and the selectors are believed to be waiting to hear on the updates of all players, including Unadkat
