“Moeen Ali quits IPL, picks PSL 2026 after Faf du Plessis”

The cricket world has been surprised by a new development: former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has decided to leave the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) and will instead play in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL 2026).

Moeen took this decision soon after another big name, Faf du Plessis, announced that he too was skipping IPL and shifting to PSL. Moeen shared the news on social media, saying he was “excited to join PSL in its new era,” and praising the league for its high-quality competition and passionate fans.

Moeen Ali has been part of the IPL since 2018. Over this period, he played for several big franchises — Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In total, he appeared in 73 IPL matches, scored 1,167 runs, and also claimed 41 wickets — showing his value as an all-rounder.

In the most recent season (2025), Moeen played a few games for KKR, but ahead of the 2026 mini-auction, the franchise released him. After that, Moeen publicly announced that he would skip the IPL auction and instead head to PSL.

For Moeen, this shift comes at a time when PSL is trying to build a new identity — and the addition of players like him and Faf du Plessis will boost its profile. Moeen himself called PSL a “top-level T20 competition,” and expressed eagerness to give his best under that pressure.

In simple words: Moeen Ali’s move signals changing dynamics in global T20 cricket. For fans in India, this means one fewer familiar face in IPL 2026. But for cricket lovers everywhere, this may add more excitement to PSL — as more well-known players cross over. As the PSL 2026 season approaches, all eyes will be on Moeen Ali’s performance and whether his gamble to switch leagues pays off.
