Roston Chase Stars as West Indies Take 1–0 Lead

West Indies Defeat New Zealand by 7 Wickets in First T20I — Roston Chase Shines Bright

West Indies started their T20 series against New Zealand with a commanding 7-wicket victory in the first match at Sabina Park, Kingston. The Caribbean side displayed a solid all-round performance, comfortably chasing down New Zealand’s target and taking a 1–0 lead in the three-match series.

Batting first, New Zealand managed to score 152/6 in 20 overs, thanks mainly to skipper Mitchell Santner’s fighting fifty (54 off 38 balls). The visitors struggled early after losing openers Finn Allen (9) and Devon Conway (13) cheaply to Akeal Hosein’s disciplined bowling. Glenn Phillips tried to stabilize the innings with 32 runs, but once Santner was dismissed, the scoring rate slowed down. The West Indies bowlers were sharp — Roston Chase stood out with 3 wickets for just 22 runs, while Hosein and Alzarri Joseph picked one each, keeping New Zealand in check throughout the innings.
