Teenage cricket sensation Sam Konstas has been named in Australia’s 15-man squad for the upcoming Boxing Day Test against India, replacing opener Nathan McSweeney.
Despite this significant call-up, Konstas is set to fulfill his commitment to the Sydney Thunder by participating in the ‘Sydney Smash’ Big Bash League (BBL) match against the Sydney Sixers on Saturday.
At 19 years old, Konstas has garnered attention with impressive performances across various formats, including a century for the Prime Minister’s XI against India earlier this month.
His selection comes after McSweeney’s struggles at the top of the order, with five scores under ten in six innings.
Chief selector George Bailey expressed confidence in Konstas’ potential, stating, “Sam gets a call up to the Test squad for the first time. His style of batting offers a point of difference, and we look forward to watching his game develop further.”
Konstas’ inclusion in the Test squad marks a significant milestone in his burgeoning career, and his participation in the Sydney Smash will provide fans an opportunity to witness his talent ahead of the Boxing Day Test.
