India continued their winning momentum and defeated Australia by 44 runs in the second T20I in Thiruvananthapuram. The outcome helped the hosts extend their lead to 2-0 in the five-match series. India, who were invited to bat first piled a massive 235/4 on the board. Australia in response could only manage 191/9 in their full quota of overs.
The proceedings kicked-off with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad giving India a strong start. The pair added 77 runs for the opening wicket in 5.5 overs before Jaiswal departed for 25-ball 53. Ishan Kishan then joined Gaikwad in the middle and guided India beyond 100 at the midway stage. He then switched tempo and completed his half-century in 29 balls, before getting out to Marcus Stoinis for 52(32).
Gaikwad also completed his half-century before getting out in the final over for 58(43). Rinku Singh chipped in with an unbeaten 31, which came off 9 deliveries.
