IPL 2025, PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2 Highlights, Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians: Shreyas Iyer was at his spectacular best, playing a captain’s knock to drive Punjab Kings to a massive five-wicket win vs Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 fixture, in Ahmedabad. Initially, PBKS skipper Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl. Then, fans survived an early scare as rain delayed the start of play. The match finally began at 9:45 PM IST, with MI sending Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow to open the innings. Rohit departed early, losing his wicket to Marcus Stoinis in the third over, departing for eight off seven balls. After Rohit’s dismissal, Bairstow staged a fightback with Tilak Varma. But the English opener lost his wicket in the seventh over to Vyshak Vijaykumar, leaving for 38 off 24 balls. Tilak (44) and Suryakumar Yadav (44) also made noteworthy contributions, before losing their wickets to Kyle Jamieson and Yuzvendra Chahal respectively. MI skipper Hardik Pandya failed to make a contribution, registering only 15 off 13 balls. Meanwhile, Naman Dhir had a late contribution, smacking 37 off 18 deliveries. Raj Bawa (8*) and Mitchell Santner (0*) remained unbeaten as MI posted 203/6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 204 runs, PBKS reached 207/5 in 19 overs, courtesy of Iyer’s unbeaten knock of 87* runs off 41 balls, including hitting the match-winning six. PBKS had a shaky start, losing opener Prabhsimran Singh (6) early, and Priyansh Arya also left for 20 off 10 balls. Josh Inglis started PBKS’ fightback with Iyer, but the wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed by Hardi in the eighth over, leaving for 38 off 21 balls. Iyer then found the perfect partner in Nehal Wadhera, who registered 48 off 29 balls. Wadhera was dismissed int he 16th over, but Iyer didn’t give, even though Shashank Singh was removed cheaply for only two runs. Then in the 19th over, Iyer took on Ashwani Kumar, smacking four sixes, including the match-winning shot int he final ball of the over as PBKS beat MI by five wickets.
