Ashwin’s double act of hundred and six-for secures 1-0 lead for India

India vs Bangladesh highlights, Day 4 Test Match Today: Ashwin, who went wicketless in the first innings ended the second with 88 for 6. He was ably assisted by Ravindra Jadeja (3/58). Jadeja’s Test wicket tally has now moved to 299.

India have made a remarkable comeback after being reduced to 144 for 6 by Bangladesh on Day 1. It was the spin dup Ashwin and Jadeja, who forged a 199-run stand for the seventh wicket to get India out of the trouble.

Led by Jasprit Bumrah, India bundled out Bangladesh for 149 runs in one and a half session. India didn’t enforce the follow-on and Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant shared 167 runs for the fourth wicket to put India on top on Day 3. Pant reached 100 off 124 balls, and hit 13 fours as well as four sixes. Gill reached his fifth hundred off 161 balls and stayed unbeaten until the end.

On Day 4 morning, Bangladesh overnight batters skipper Najmul Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan showed great application to survive the opening burst from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. However, once Ashwin was introduced after the drinks break, things changed quickly. Ashwin picked his 37th five-wicket haul and Jadeja also picked up three wickets to wrap up Bangladesh’s tail quickly. Najmul scored a fine 82.

The second Test of the two-match series will be played in Kanpur from September 27.
