Agar released from Test squad, to feature in Sheffield Shield

Ashton Agar, the Australian left-arm spinning all-rounder, is set to return home from the ongoing tour of India to play domestic cricket for Western Australia. Australia haven’t named a replacement for Agar ahead of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, set to begin on March 1.

Agar, who was a part of the squad for the first two Tests, didn’t get an opportunity to feature in the first XI, with the visitors instead opting for the services of Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann. Meanwhile, Mitchell Swepson, who had missed the second Test and headed home for the birth of his child, is set to be available for the third Test.

Australia are already set to be without David Warner and Josh Hazlewood, both of whom have left the tour due to their respective injuries. However, Cameron Green is expected to be fit and available for the third Test.

Agar, who will now feature in Western Australia’s next Sheffield Shield game on March 2 and their 50-over Marsh Cup final on March 8, is expected to return to India in March for the ODI series.
