Australia’s Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player ever to be sold at the IPL Auction when the Kolkata Knight Riders acquired the pacer’s services for Rs. 24.75 crore.
World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins fetched the second-best bid, going to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 20.50 crore. Archrivals Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians initially got into a tussle for Cummins before the Royal Challengers Bangalore and SRH swooped in with their respective bids.
SRH also got Cummins’ compatriot and Player of the Match of the 2023 World Cup final, Travis Head, for 6.80 crore. The side also sensationally bagged Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga for his base price of 1.50 crore.
On Wednesday, Punjab Kings recorded the highest bid made for an Indian player when Harshal Patel moved to the franchise for 11.75 crore rupees.
Chennai Super Kings’ first buy came in the shape of Rachin Ravindra for 1.80 crore rupees. Also, Shardul Thakur’s homecoming to Chepauk was greeted with loud cheers.
